People are already starting to lose their minds with this schedule. And me too.

I thought people would be happy about the movie canonization but they seem very split about it because Tabata went the easy rushed route.

And I get it, this arc feels dull, DULL.
We've been getting the same stuff for 2 years now.
Rivalry wank used to be relegated to the last 2 chapters of every arc, now it's been going for 2 years
We're still stagnated on the same fights from 2 years ago.

There's been some neat additions here and there ngl, but it just feels like Tabata is cramming everything before Lucius' defeat, creating an artificial bottleneck before he decides to end the series for good.

Tabata (or Jump execs) just seem hell-bent on him finishing the series on Jump GIGA without going monthly.
This is why we won't ever see this arc truly evolve or branch out.
The ideal play for stakes, lore drops, character development and world building would be to end the first round against Lucius (either with a temporal defeat or retreat) and have some downtime to tie lose ends there.
Instead everything is happening in the middle of a battle that's been happening for 2 years now.

And I don't fucking understand it, everything Black Clover is GIGA branded now, even the anime announcement mentions Jump GIGA, so, for god's sake, why don't they commit to the bit?
Like Tabata could increase the page count, maybe 80-100 pages per issue, or maybe he could make us feel like he isn't rushing shit and that BC's final arc will take the time it needs, be it 2 years or 5 years.
Or just go to another magazine, Asta still gets invited to WSJ promos...
I don't get it, I just don't get it.

What I do know is the story and characters are suffering from it and I don't see how Tabata will fix that, I don't know if he even cares at this point.

Well, that was a really awesome batch of chapters. Don't have much to say that I haven't said already, beyond happy Mars and the Diamond gang are finally back (now that I noticed, in the spread where they all charge towards Morris you could see him and Fana flying together each with a phoenix wing each, peak ship man), everyone is finally here, some nice redemption for the Eye of the Midnight Sun and the elves and our hero is back after a brief nap. What a shame this release is trimonthly, but at the same time I cannot be any happier with this, I hope next batch ends up being even better and we see more of the fights with Paladins.

Julius was killing terrorists who had just attacked civilians in Clover. American cops are more trigger happy than him but I wouldn't equate their behavior with Lucius's psychopathic mind games and his plan to genocide the world. Tabata also worked hard on establishing Julius as a good guy, with his mentor role to Yami and William, acting as a counterweight to the nobles' classism and being very accepting of people like Asta. That's the part that Tabata didn't want to mess with by making Julius into a villain.

Unfortunately the cost of the Lucius twist is that the main villain became completely detached from the rest of the cast. An evil Julius would have had interesting interactions with the likes of Yami and William, the two of them wondering if their father figure ever genuinely cared about them or if he only took them under his wing because they were needed to open a gate to the Underworld. Asta and Yuno could ask similar questions about the guidance Julius gave them, especially the mission to the dungeon where they found an anti-magic sword and a wind spirit respectively. Even Marx's obsession with Julius could have led to something more than him just being randomly executed.

In contrast, Lucius has nobody to interact with one a personal level, except maybe Adrammelech whom he's conversed with like twice so far. He can't bounce off of anyone the way someone like Aizen could do with Gin and Tosen or Madara with Hashirama and Obito, so we never see any other sides to him than him just being an asshole to his enemies. The last option for that, this being Julius trying to appeal to Lucius from the inside, was also immediately removed at the start of the arc, which I think highlights how Tabata made Lucius essentially replace Julius so as to avoid turning Julius himself evil.
