It depends on what the bonuses are for the editions. Mahou Ako had the Baiser figure for their 1st BD, which is quite nice, while something like the SMT Devil Children box which was like $350 had basically nothing but the series itself. It was still a good deal given jp BD prices since it was 50 episodes for that price, and it was a pain in the ass to get the dvds or find good quality raw rips of only some of the series.

I don't disagree. I feel like in more recent times blu-rays have sort of fallen into the wayside and it's just something that company seem to be obligated to produce. I remember 10 plus years ago owning blu-rays while expensive was a way to one make your voice directly heard by the company to support a series that you would end up liking. Encourage the company to make more of similar series or sequels. The other thing is is that a lot of the older bonuses tend to be really unique. I've gotten fullsize tote bags, bags, stickers, ticket holders, pass cases, 10 acrylic standees, full size cups. right now if I buy through the to be hero X bds one of the sites has a limited fine graph for their blu-rays which are usually like 20k themselves. On the other hand you have tackt opus where the blu-rays had only the bonuses being serial numbers for the game which ended up going eos after barely a year. So while I feel like I don't regret the blu-rays that I bought whether new or 2nd hand. they're always going to be more expensive than English or european blu-rays which charge $30 for a season. At least the nip blue rays often come in a cardboard box rather than just plastic.

I would still encourage if you really liked the series to buy the blu-rays because you'll never have to really worry about rips if you own them.

I really like owning the DVDs and/or BDs of shows and movies. They are so cheap nowadays in the states. The problem I found is that less popular anime rarely get upscaled re-releases from their DVD or even VHS days. They seem readily available in Japan, albeit more expensive. But like you both said, at least they come with a lot of extra content to slightly justify the cost.
