I think it's clear Kyomotos death is Fujimoto admiting to the public his love and passion for art has considerably fallen off after a while and he sees it as more of a job than anything. The truth is the main villain every mangaka has to face are the weekly schendules and pressure to maintain the public hyped for upcoming chapters, i believe stuff like that is why one shots like Goodbye Eri and Look Back are the peak of Fujimoto's writing, as he had at least a bit of freedom to work on those in the manner he prefered. I do think letting him make it monthly would help somewhat (even if it’s just for his own sake), but yeah. It seems pretty obvious something else is going on too. Like you said, the weeks where he has a break don’t look any different, and aren’t any longer, than when he’s weekly.

With some of the writing decisions he’s had over part 2 too, it really does seem to me that he’s burnt out or has lost his passion for the series for one reason or another. He ended the first falling devil arc and just never really recovered.

That’s why it’s kinda incredulous when people talk about part 3. Like, look at the state of the series. He clearly doesn’t have another 100 chapters in him. Frankly I think the entire series is going to end somewhat soon.
