I have anime I want to watch and manga I want to read but I can barely bring myself to do it, I have to basically force myself to actually sit down to do anything. What is wrong? How do I break the cycle and actually find the energy to do so?

Set a time to do these things as long as they make you happy and do them. Its not complicated if you can't find the time then don't feel like you have to force yourself. The anime and manga aren't going any where.

I'm kinda like this with video games. The problem with me is that I have nothing productive going on right now, and now with too much free time. When you have so much free time to do whatever you want, you end up doing nothing at all because there is no consequence if you don't. Watching anime is like a reward for dealing with the hardships of life, and when you have access to your reward all the time, it becomes less fulfilling.

We have to many options for watching anime and manga now that it can be overwhelming on what to watch. I think it's called decision fatigue. That's why I tend to default to things like shorts and tiktok, because it tends to make the decisions for me on what I want to watch instead. Like channel surfing. My solution is to click the random button on any anime and manga site you use if you have one, and watch/read whatever comes up, regardless of quality or interest.

I tend to binge-watch a couple seasons within a week and then burn out anime for months. I've been watching the new panty stocking season weekly, and I've found it to be a habit I look forward to and am consistent with. Moderation.

what do you waste time on the most? I'm assuming it's mindlessly browsing 4chan and maybe watching random youtube videos. if you're doing other things you genuinely enjoy then it's fine, but I highly doubt that's the case. make it harder for yourself to waste time on the easy but not rewarding things, like limiting 4chan to your phone or only being able to browse for 10 minutes every 2 hours (/a/ is slow enough, you won't miss anything). or you could make a mini ritual out of watching anime and reading manga. instead of doing both at your computer where it's easy to be distracted by other things, set up a jellyfin server and watch anime on your tv, go to the couch and read manga on a tablet. if you don't want to do that, at least turn off other monitors so you're not distracted.
that's more for if you just have trouble starting, but you do still enjoy watching anime once you actually get going. if you like the idea of liking anime and manga but you don't actually enjoy it, then I can't help there. might be depression, might be your taste changed and you've not quite realized it

Either
1. You have gotten bored with anime and manga, and need to take a break with other hobbies
2. You have not earned the right to sit down and enjoy stuff. There are other matters in your life that you need to attend to.
3. General low energy from bad nutrition, body health, etc.

I don't know. I used to be able to watch 2 cours of anime a day easily. Now I watch about 2 cours a year not counting the December stream.

I still manage to play a couple of hours of vidya a day though.

I was far more depressed back when I could watch 50 episodes a day.
