A story requiring it's readership to have a solid grasp and the emotional web that are human relationships is not one that is, by any means, worse than one that chooses to overexpose its characters' every emotion. Similar to how ambiguous imagery in film isn't worse than an info-dump. It's not bad cause (you) don't get it. The bottleneck is the readers/viewers (in)ability to connect, not the substance of the work itself. But go ahead and spend your life whining about how all things you don't get happen to be bad.
