Yeah no, I'm not going through that many fucking covers, here's my own list I made a while back.
This is based on everything, Color, Shading, Line Work, Shapes, Anatomy, faces everything.

Realistic art-style is shit

Way too many shit series on here to actually want to sort them all. When Ashita no Joe gets the better scans from the new release, it'll SS for sure, and if Slam Dunk had better scans when I read it, it'd be S for sure. Anything not put on mine would just be extremely low or I didn't read it

what makes Land of the Lustrous, Kingdom and Yotsuba not your thing?
Anonymous No.281396561 >>281397082
>>281396526
Yostuba is cute but too simple and samey for me, Land of The Lustrous too abstract and Kingdom I like for the most part except for a few things like the way Hara draws bug eyes and his inability to draw muscles that don't look deformed.

I read Valley of the Wind a long ass time ago, but I remember the background being way too noisey.

I like the Sketchy style of it, mainly Hidden Inventory to Shibuya.

this kind of chart isn't very useful for sets as broad as "all of the manga" (that anon knows (and he doesn't know very many)) and it's better for the scope to be more limited and topical like "anime of the season" or "mom of the year" or "best lesbian underwater kiss"

Anonymous No.281401689
>>281397208
don't listen to that anon, I agree with you maybe the Yotsuba& part I'd slightly disagree with. But when it comes to the, 'barebones' abstract style of art, HnK just doesn't do it for me. I think tkmiz with something like Shimeji Simulation executes that type of style better. JJK's art is one of, if not my favorite aspect of it.

Why does realism art get such high praise in manga? Europeans and Americans do it all the time even paint comics but no one cares.

There's this type of manga readers that are literally Berserk's my babies first seinen and they worship that stuff. Other symptoms include only reading borderline shounen or just actual shounen and proclaiming how manly they are and how deep and mature their hype sustained manga are while anything else is effeminate or lacking in intellect. They're absolutely allergic to stylization because it's moe and shit.

The major problem with this an author styles can change heavily throughout the work. Like which chapters of Baki and Kengan would I be ranking?
Anonymous No.281402516 >>281402848 >>281403150
>>281402205
The ironic part is Berserk art if it was western just looks above average, I'm not even a /co/fag but growing up around comic I really don't see the big deal and stylized art for both tends to be less bland.

I don't know anything about comics, but the general layman view on them is that they don't maintain high consistent level of quality if it does go the hyper realistic route, whereas Berserk was a proper serialization at some point.

Yes, I'm aware and I dabble in anything I find interesting from shounen to josei and their various genres. I was only pointing out that specific type of people that I've observed aplenty on this board.

It depends on the artist but yes, though lot of comic fans hate stylized art for some reason even if it looks cool and just like really bland grounded stuff but also it helps mangaka have assistants vs western comics just have inkers but manga is usually weekly but there's lot more hands on a manga art with all the assistants vs comic just artist, inker and colorist. One isn't better than the other just depends but comics can fall off a bit in art because there's less hands on it.

this look nothing like berserk the difference is very distinct even when they try a more realistic approach
Anonymous No.281403255
>>281403150
Well Berserk art closer to like a Bernie Wrightson with more stylized faces and less detail who's was a master and clearly might of inspired it but I was just showing a random comic piece to prove my point.
Anonymous No.281403620
>>281403054
I think it's about wanting the thing they like to be validated and not seen as childish so realistic is inherently better.
Also I thought comics have many more roles (not necessarily number of people) working on one piece of work than a manga, which at most has an editor, writer, artist and assistants. Maybe that's just how it works at the big companies? Manga has a lot more monthly or less frequency publications than weekly, which is very competitive, and because artists pay out of their own pocket for assistants, there are actually quite a few that work with minimal or no assistants if they can make their schedule on their own.

I like Yamaguchi's style, especially in Shigurui it manages to capture the weird atmosphere quite well
