Is smoking and gambling a normal thing to do in Japan? I ask because Osomatsu has always been a gambler and in a rewatch I noticed that him and I believe Karamatsu had lit cigarettes. In the west (or in my country at least) people who gamble/bet and smoke cigarettes are generally thought of as being low-class people to avoid, not quite thugs but morally stained delinquents that puts them almost adjacent to that. I suppose it conflicts with my interpretation a bit because while the brothers are obviously scum, I've always thought of them as being fairly sheltered, mentally children but with an adult's sexual needs, and will always have their mom to clean up after them.

I live in the west in a largish American city and we wouldn’t see a gambler or smoker like this. Casinos are a pretty normal pastime for people of all ages. I can’t point out what it is about each season being worse than the last but I feel that way too. To me it just felt like the first had the most memorable skits, best comedy and episodes that developed the characters like ESP Kitty. In comparison I can only remember standout skits from the second and third seasons and none of them reached the highs of the first. I was rewatching some season three episodes the other day and spent most of it thinking ‘oh yeah, I vaguely remember this’ instead of being able to recall most of season one’s skits without having rewatched it. The third season’s episodes that focused on developing the brothers like the OsoNyaa episode and the walk back from the wedding were good but I didn’t find myself laughing at any of the funny parts and thought they were dragged out. Again though I can’t put my finger on why I feel this way and it’s not nostalgia because I only found this franchise in 2019.

Having been exposed to the South Park fandom I wasn't shocked. I think anything with more than a few male characters will always have a female fanbase even if it's weird or the characters are ugly. The characters are like neutered versions of themselves, the things that made each of them unique seems like they dont matter at all.
