I partially blame this for why Overlord got so popular, the whole "nostalgia for my old MMO guild" might have struck a chord with a lot of people.

Shame that after Shalltear brainwashing incident the story went absolutely fucking nowhere.
There is no interesting direction, mystique or intrigue in this story. "FInd the old guildmates" is a nothing goal because author already inderectly answered that there are no other players currently present.
The story doesn't deliver a fun enough sandbox world either despite all of these worldbuilding promises. Maruyama would rather nuke the Re-Estise kingdom and give dark elven dirt farmers instead.

Man, i love the premise and many of these characters. I just wish it was all in the hands of a better writer.

Being the only one left in your friend group as you get older and everyone moves away relates to more than just MMO gaming. Most people get this feel after graduating high school or college. That's the more universal appeal of Overlord. Ainzsama finds himself in the most explicit version of that scenario where he literally finds himself as a hollow husk of a skelly with beings that represent the memories of the past and the literal entire real world having moved on, and he is now trying to find meaning in life afterward in a new world. Whether the old guildmates or even other random players are out there or not is kind of irrelevant. Him reuniting with everyone probably even thematically goes against this this whole dealing with loss. That's what I take from it at least. And I kind of agree that the author either doesn't quite grasp what he's writing or he's forced to extend the concept indefinitely because it pays the bills and so the story evolved along a line that is more apt to extend forever.

I don't care for Climb or Gazef, but Brain is cool just from how fucking hype he gets from cutting Shalltear's nail.
For me I haven't read anything past that cutie neia because it felt like every storyline past the empire/kingdom stuff is a throwaway due to never really learning much about their countries beforehand, and with Nazarick out in the open and making big moves nothing you learn in the short time before Ainz's (Demiurge's) subterfuge succeeds really makes a difference

I thought the series was going to be about him juggling between both, not just Ainz always being forced to annihilate random people due to misunderstandings from his NPCs. The moment he completely dropped the Mommon persona and gave it entirely to Pandoras Actor is when things got boring.
