When will /a/ finally admit that the main reason people got so hooked on Evangelion was because of coom-worthy female characters? If Asuka and Rei weren’t as attractive, if manchildren didn’t have massive crushes on them growing up, turning them into iconic waifus for a whole generation this series probably wouldn’t have survived past the og series and would’ve been forgotten by now.

Was that even a debate? Not like people were hiding it.

A good character design isn't enough to be remembered and talked about after 30 years. Evangelion is fantastic for its characters, not just their designs

Are you underage or why did you think this was a revelatory or important point? Of course attractive characters helped its commercial success. That doesnt change the fact that its the artistic pinnacle of cinema.

It's kinda obvious, anon. I also like the doujins in which Misato has a sexual relationship with Shinji.

I always thought the art style made them look like uggos

Sure, I'll admit it. Helps that the premise and overall story was engrossing too, so I felt like it was actually worth investing into the characters unlike so many series out there with wasted girls. Hell, I genuinely wish more Rei expies had as much bite as her or even half as interesting as she was. Ironically, most Rei expies are practically just "dolls", showing how many people missed the point.

Yes I’ve said as much myself. Rei and Asuka aren’t just crucial to Evangelion’s popularity, they ARE Evangelion.

I saw Eva in the late 90s when I was a 10yo kiddo. I didn't care about that female gay shit. I was a ShinjiCHAD from day 01 and stayed one until 3+1. We WON, you LOST. Get over it LOOPER.

As in, you're gay for Shinji? Is that you mean? What do you think of his affair with Kaworu?

almost every anime has cute girls and Asuka/Rei/Misato don't blow away their competitors in that regard. Even limited to Anno works, Noriko is cuter.

Underage fucking retard.
I lived this shit during the VHS era. The concept of waifu and coom after anime didn't exist back then.
This shit came before the ancient tech that was DVDs.
Anime fanart as we know it now did not exist.
It was already hard to get your hands on a VHS at the time.
Physical media was unreachable, translated doujin was inexistent. Specially for us who were underage at the time Eva aired.

My generation grew in a world incomprehensibly different from yours zoomershit. The concept of "waifus" and "cooming after anime" is in fact relatively recent. It was non-existent in the 90s, somewhat niche in the 2000s and niche to popular in the 2010s.

The 90s were before accessible porn, before the internet, before brainrot, before gay marriage. Sexual culture was tame then. Eva did not succeed because of "coom and waifus".

Eva succeeded because it was different than the usual cartoons for children, Eva was different than the family friendly skits from the 90s. It had the character dynamics and a level of action you would only see in late night movies but in plain daylight in public TV. Eva succeeded because it was a cultural shock.

You're a zoomer moron with cultural issues and your dogshit post is nothing but retroactive projection of the degenerate way you enjoy the medium.

Why else would you watch anime but for sexualized girls which modernity stole from you
