by making it end at the completion of the game, rather than whatever the fuck they did with the floor 100 skip while being in floor 75 or whatever. + reduce harem and introduce more companions and deaths (klein dead) + swap the camera to someone other than kirito once in a while

whole anime shoulda been straight 24 episodes of SAO + aftermath rather than straight to elfheim or whatever

Animate Progressive without adding that OCdonutsteel, what the fuck were they thinking?

Get rid of the super advanced virtual reality that kills you for real gimmick and instead be sure to frequently cut to our boys on front of their monitors in their gaming chairs

First off, make it about actually playing the game and clearing it. Expand the game mechanics and stuff, not make Kirito a loner gary stu, etc etc

drop alfheim or redo it as it was boring and too short to be impactful (a mild blessing) then extend SAO for the whole of season 1 and have some scenes back in the real world showing what the govt were doing and how familes were reacting to their loved ones being trapped in the game

Abridged already fixed it, but I would bring argo back as asuna's half japanese half jewish handler given that shes rich, and reeling from her own long list of character defects, dragged asuna into sao in the first place. instead of being another kirito simp shes actually a yaya for asuna, and kirito and her are constantly bickering. the final solution part of the tip guide was written to troll her. anyway after fairy dance I end the anime. there doesn't need to be more. alicization and all the crap that comes after can be done with a totally new cast like digimon.

Have it focus wholly on action, plot, science fiction, world building, and survival. If there must be a romance under pain of death then just have it with an AI just to lean harder into the science fiction themes.
Kirito as a character is fine. I think i remember seeing an image floating around where anon realized that he lost most of his fights. I don't keep score but i remember that he was mostly suffering.

Impossible. The isekai trope is all about giving up on the promises given to you in the real world, and escaping by projecting yourself onto a character who's able to start anew and get all the things you were promised. It's pure garbage dopamine.
The only way to fix it is to make the real world more appealing again, relegating isekai to the garbage bin of storytelling where it belongs.

Have some consistent struggle.
Don't just timeskip to have Kirito suddenly be so high level that most others can't damage him, or as soon as he beats a single dungeon he's now powerful enough to use a sword that accomplishes what was considered a year long task. These jumps in power/ease for our hero clashes with them treating the stakes and threats as a challenge.
