Doubtful, if the higher upside wanted him gone. It was the higher ups like Gene Conily and Jamitov who founded the Titans and loathed the White Base for stealing Federation glory. Even if he survived I doubt he wver would have been accepted into the Titans. I think literally just one crewman from the White Base joined the Titans and that was one of the bridge duo (I think). Virtually all other White Base personnel were kept at arms length, hence why Bright was getting fucked up by Bask in Zeta.

Both Mirai and Cameron. Cameron made the White Base an offer to escort them out of Side 6 territory, which would prevent the Zeon battleships outside from opening fire on them for a while because Side 6 has a non-agression pact with both the Federation and Zeon. Mirai thought this was Cameron just trying to show off to get her to change her mind, and Cameron got wrapped up in her argument.

Sleggar slapped Mirai and then punched Cameron (after taking his glasses off to be considerate) to snap both to reality: This squabble is petty, we are at war. Cameron's offer is EXTREMELY generous to the White Base to allow for necessary prep time before the fighting begins, Mirai needs to think about the needs of the ship and the crew first, and Cameron needs to stick up for himself instead of constantly denigrating himself out of shame.

Sleggar always put the needs of the many over his own, taking up empty spots when it was necessary, offering advice and counseling to the younger crewmembers, and flying side by Amuro when he needed a wingman. Even his death was a sacrifice to get Amuro inside the Big Zam's i-field so he could destroy it to stop it from ravaging the Federation fleet assaulting Solomon.

You're supposed to experience that. Not only is there unbroken continuity between the two, they also aired back to back in the exact same timeslot. I think the recap at the beginning of ZZ is enough to recalibrate. Besides, ZZ has far bigger problems than the whiplash that come up later on.

The latter feels like the more interesting reading, as if Char is ignorantly speaking ill of the dead to suppress those emotions, but he demonstrates at every opportunity that he's incapable of feeling remorse or taking responsibility for things, that he's guided by whimsy and justifies himself after the fact. When Kycilia confronts him, does he express any regret? No, he decides he gave up because he "found love" but proceeds to kill Kycilia anyways once he can't redirect all of his malice at Amuro anymore. No, the only thing Char regrets is facing consequences for his actions.

At least one good thing came from GQuaks. It made people more interested in UC Gundams.

Char has several different motivations and they're constantly in conflict throughout his life, and he knows it. He's the rightful heir to the legacy of the Republic of Zeon, but also feels the need to get revenge on the Zabis for Deikun's sake, but also his friendship with Garma was at least partially sincere. He ends up protecting the last member of the family he devoted his life to destroying. He's an icon of Zeon as the Red Comet and genuinely enjoys piloting, but his archrival is a noble man who shares much of his philosophy, and they don't hate each other after the OYW. But he believes in Newtype ideology while Amuro is content to let humanity progress on its own, so CCA happens. He doesn't want power and doesn't like it when he has it, but if he doesn't take the reins then you'll just get lunatic ideologues like Haman and forever-fighters like Gato leading new Neo Zeon factions, and if Zeon dies out then there's the possibility Contolism dies with it and the Federation crushes the progress of Newtypes.
Char has a LOT going on and most of it isn't by his own will.
