I'll never understand the anons who talk like this was AOTY. It's like they took the initial concept from YKK and then bastardized it as much as possible to make a comedy series that isn't remotely funny set in a post-apoc environment. It didn't even manage the existential dread well nor did it for human emotion. Episodes like when Yachiyo came to understand the manager's reasons for service to others, producing alcohol, etc., were about as subtle as getting hit by a car. The best character was Yachiyo, being millions of times better than the rest of the retards that appeared in every episode, including the tanukis.

If you compare the collages of way back when to now, you can see the culture shift happening in the early 2010s. The yearly collages used to be about things happening on /a/, which included the standout series that had a considerable following here (for example, KlK). Now, there's maybe 1 boardwide event (this year would be when the site went down in April) and the rest is just the most memorable screencap from shows that had at least 50 viewers from /a/.

There's no fixation on the initial episodes. It didn't excel at any aspect, whether it was the beginning or what it became. Yes, comedy is subjective, but the comedy in the show is painfully mediocre.
