but even if you can't accept all of this, the entire point of these characters is to show two different ways people handle breakups. tanishi is sad, but he moves on and continues to do his best to become a better person more worthy of the girl he likes now. meanwhile chiharu gets permanently mindbroken and stuck on tanishi forever, even going so far as to try and fuck up his life after they reunite.
however, seinen manga is hard for children to understand, so i recommend rereading as an adult.
