Healin Good Review 12!

I'm not sure what to say as this episode really felt like we're on the precipice of something. I wonder if the silly virus was really starting to mess with the writers.

Summary for the anons that need it: Its precure meeting time at Nodoka's with the fairies announcing Precure boot camp. After a few side-tangents the fairies finally express their reasons and before the girls know it, they are at a deserted quary. To show the results the Fairies are looking for, Rabi and Nya do a dry run of battle moves, seamlessly dodging each other; until they don't. While Rabi and Nya scream at each other for failing, Pegi lets the girls know they is not what they are seeking with this camp. First exercise is glorified Charades, with Chiyu up first attempting to act out several commands; Nodoka and Hinata, and Chiyu for that matter are completely lost. This goes on for some time and the girls have a rest as the fairies retreat to their doctor-bag homes and second guess themselves. As the break ends, they exit to find the girls laughing over their silly tradition sounds game. The fairies are flabbergasted as the girls work together for some fun. And then the new general appears, begins his attack run; with probably the weakest MoTW this season. The new guy isn't bothered its weak as he'd personally rather fight himself and let the MoTW do all the infecting. As he seemingly gets the upperhand, the girls come together and give him a good bashing, straight into the MoTW. With the MoTW downed in a single hit, the Cures cleanse it and become bothered when the new guy is rather entertained by the loss, announcing he was the result of failing to fix a MoTW fast enough, and that he really, really loved to fight, scaring the Cures as he leaves. Afterwards everyone sits around to reassure themselves they are doing things right; Hinata quietly backing away from the group, quite shook.

So the previous two episodes were mostly fighting and the actual writing was just missing something. Maybe, hopefully, the jokes fell flat for me, but they were pretty low jokes. Nodoka's need to save the artworks was fine, but I don't get why the girls wouldn't have made sure the MoTW in the museum was finished off before running. They felt unrefined, which is why I think the virus was really starting to mess with the workplace. Like the final adjustments that were needed didn't happen.

I need a bit of help. I took a break from precure for about 7 years (dropped it when Hugtto was airing), but want to get back in. I'm pretty out of the loop regarding anything recent. I watched Tropical over the last weeks, and downloaded Star Twinkle as well.

But after that, I'm not sure what I want to watch next or if I even have the time for all seasons. I pretty much despise any romance content, I mostly care for the humor and good action sequences.

How are Healing Good, Delicious Party, Hirogaru Sky, Wonderful and Idol (did I miss one?) in that regard? I saw a few posts talking about a Dark Age, but I'm out of the loop.

That could be a little rough. Healin' Good through Idol have been mostly good. I'd say you would like them if you liked TR, but it depends on what you would call romance content. DP has a pair that's pushed and it plays a role in one character's motivation but doesn't go anywhere major in the show. Shippers latched onto HS hard but it doesn't really focus on anything aside from a baby's crush for a few jokes. Wonderful definitely has it and it's the focus of a few episodes mid-season. Idol has one character downright obsessed with another, we'll see how it plays out.
The action has been similar with TR, every season has a few really cool fights. I haven't seen Healin' Good, Tropical Rouge, and Delicious Party since they aired so I might need a refresh on their humor. I remember liking DP's action though despite it taking place in the same location most of the time.
I thought Wonderful was the funniest of the five, but action is different since they didn't want to show them hurting animals. Webm is a bit from one of their fights.
I'd say go Healin' Good. If you aren't feeling it you could give Hirogaru Sky a try, it seems to be becoming a love it or hate it sort of deal. Delicious Party is there if you don't mind one important character having a crush, he disappears pretty often.

HS and Idol are the most consistent when it comes to good humor and action sequences other than TR, though HS's overarching plot is... questionable. Idol does have an episode early on that makes a potential romance seem more important than it is (at least for the first 3/5ths of the season though I guess it could theoretically become much more romance focused for the last 2/5ths). I'd say those two seasons are the Reiwa seasons most like TR.
HG is good but mostly carried by its MC and is a little on the more somber side as far as seasons go (and the action isn't the best because of Covid), DP is very weak for its first third but does get better as it goes on though the Delicious field aspect does hinder the action a little (and also it does have some romance moments but it's not remotely comparable to Yes 5 or HaCha in that regard, maybe slightly more than Fresh), and Wonderful has very fun slice of fun moments but it's definitely one of the more romance focused seasons and the action is... abysmal isn't quite right but don't expect anything.

This was the perfect season to watch after Futari wa, it was absolutely amazing.
Having Precures be world-wide superheroes was a brilliant move.
I loved seeing someone like an adult Masukomi covering Precures on the actual news.
I loved Megumi wanting to be a precure for pretty shallow reasons, and Hime not really wanting to be a precure for pretty deep reasons. The contrast made them an amazing pair and got me hooked already at episode one. And the season just never stopped delivering on new sources of excitement. I loved the Precure Hunter and Unlovely. I loved Fortune's arc. And then they pulled out a well-forshadowed love-triangle and amped it up to 11 by adding in Hime crushing on Seiji. And then they baited the Precure Hunter's redemption. And baited redemption for all the generals. And had Yuuko travel the world to help people. And had Dark Tender appear. And revealed that Mirage herself was a Dark Cure. And then they delivered Mirage redemption way earlier than I expected so they could fully focus on Seiji's love for the Christmas episode and give that plotline the impact it deserved.

Oreskii is a top-tier general. The mid-season finale was also top-tier, as was Lovely's solo fights. I wasn't expecting to be so blown-away by a season this late into my Precure run (futari wa made me think I had burned out), but HappinessCharge really charged me up.

What should I watch next? I've watched:

It was basically Naoko, your typical man-hating yuritard vs Ikuhara, a fruity omnipanderer but more on the fujo/fundashi side. Naoko hated Ikuhara and the 90’s anime because it added fujo pandering while toning down the yuri, and what yuri it did add focused on the “wrong ships” according to her. (Reinako and Haruka/Usagi in the manga vs Ikuhara’s yuri OTPs Rei/Usagi and Haruka/Michiru, he also deleted the cringe lolicon yuri ship Chibiusa/Hotaru from the manga whilst adding in Makoto/Ami)

Even with Ikuhara’s yuri ships he still massively toned down the yuri from the manga all the same considering the SM manga features an actual onscreen yuri kiss between Haruka and Usagi and the 90’s anime has zero lesbian kisses, not even between the canon Haruka/Michiru. He actually ends up giving the most romantic moments to all the fujo shippings more often than not.

Ikuhara also toned down the extreme devotion and “haremy” vibe the Senshi felt towards Usagi, in the manga Usagi basically marries them all together with Mamoru in the end and Rei is a man-hating bislut who takes a vow of chastity towards Usagi. In the manga Rei is still a bislut but no longer man hating and is seen always chasing guys, Mamoru was also the only relevant male character in the SM manga while Ikuhara fleshed out all the male villains and gave them more screentime (as well as said fujo shipping) which angered Naoko a lot like the typical yuritard she is.

I don't think Deep Mirror being the real final boss was very shocking. I liked that they didn't drag out Mirage's redemption more than needed, and the love triangle was well done. It was foreshadowed a ton, but it didn't really take up undue focus while the world was in peril.
