Can't speak for the Jap audience, but the Western anime-onlies took to them pretty well.
Besides, we started getting more Jiji/ Evil Eye in the manga once the EE arc started in the anime; the Kito family even showed up for the first time in years to coincide with the anime. We might see these two show up again soon. They can't really appear in the current arc, since Momo is tiny, and they're her friends.

Problem is that Tatsu seems self-conscious about adding slice of life moments after a while and they don't have powers so they don't fit in with the action.

I'm taking this early-bird opportunity to say that the "she-gooders" and NTR schizos can go fuck themselves on cacti. Okarun swore himself as Jiji's ride-or-die homie no matter what - this is just kintsugi-type shit, this too shall fucking pass. I don't know how the anime's gonna do them making up next episode though, I'm worried if they'll defang the emotions of it. Even worst are fanartists romanticizing what the cry-out should look like, and their fucking fanarts' gonna colour everyone's expectations before next week.
