How is Monogatari so inconsistent?

It's not. Just because something happens once doesn't make it the norm you fucking retard. Shinobus backstory arc as told from the picture show animation style was peak. The background episodes as a whole were. The mystery episodes make no sense because they're far out of context. I'm not sure why shaft decided to do this episode order at all.

Nothing, but knowing about Yamato Nadeshiko makes stuff like Renai Circulation more fun. It's just complementary appreciation.

Nise was the single best part of Monogatari and I wish the whole series was like it. Even with the (nice) sexy parts, the family story and themes were very sweet and memorable. It also revealed the sort of Shinobu prophecy, the truth of her and Araragi's relationship now that it had healed. Which loops in fits back in with the family theme. The different layers of connection one has with different groups. Just as Araragi may have a girlfriend but still has an even deeper bond with Shinobu, one tends to still have a special relationship with their family that goes beyond what even a lover can achieve. The incest builds on this too, an even deeper relationship with a specific sister. Then there is the theme of eternity, and losing something if ignored. He can have his sisters for as long as they live, but not if he continues to ignore them in such a dire moment. He can have Shinobu forever but they must always be careful and keep their paranormal sides in balance. Nise is great in how it plays into universal themes and nostalgia that most people have. It is about the special relationships we have through blood that are deeper than any other. Love your family (including the blonde loli slaves).

Hitagi Crab is the perfect form of the series that hits every point from the relationship between oddities and emotions to the philosophy of people having to save themselves but it being great to help them. Nise, Kizu, SS, Owari all build on that foundation, just as the other arcs in Bake all build onto it. From the moment Suruga Monkey unravels, it should be clear to the audience that Hanekawa and Nadeko are just showing their true selves rather than being overtaken by oddities. Despite not having the huge foundation to build on, Bake has incredible moments like Nadeko Snake ending with Araragi “failing” and begging Nadeko not to idolize him. I absolutely love the dynamic of fakes vs the real thing or the dive into Araragi’s inability to acknowledge the hard truths in front of his nose, but I find it really difficult to put these expansions above Bake.

I liked Nadeko’s new arc but the vampire stuff was a slog with lots of high concept ideas that just didn’t move me. I liked Kie and her part of the story is an interesting echo of parts of the early series but, at least in the anime, I felt like the setup of the basketball team atmosphere wasn’t really explored or utilized insightfully. Gaen is the worst character in the entire series and the only scene of hers I like is her appearance in Tiger since she plays off Hanekawa so well there.

Nadeko doesn't say anything about fucking a bunch of other men. She actually ends it all by saying that she'll be patient as she waits for her special man, whether that be Araragi or someone else. With letting go of Araragi, it is simply her giving up her performative obsession and accepting that he has likely found someone else in Hitagi. This sort of theme is recurrent in Monogatari. A sort of acceptance at how a situation is, instead of overthinking it and tearing yourself up over it. Monogatari's main message is about continuing to move on and enjoy life. It is kind of obvious too since the first chronological story features a suicidal Araragi finding a will to live. While Nisio later rewrites Araragi's depression into starting from the whole Sodachi thing, there isn't a hint of explanation in Kizu. This is because it doesn't matter, what matters is that Araragi finds will to go on. The short story where Yotsugi acts like a therapist for Shinobu shows this a lot. You don't give up the past, and will in fact always be one with it. But it is important you don't let your grievances get in the way of the continuation of your life. Essentially, enjoy life. Nadeko Draw was mainly about this, her relationship to Araragi was almost irrelevant to it in a way. You aren't supposed to see Nadeko becoming unfaithful, you are supposed to see her learning to love life, her believing that her best days are still ahead. Now Nadeko is feeling great again.

Code Geass is a fantastic spectacle that made a lot of very interesting choices that could be described as reading the Wikipedia article on postcolonial literature and then making the most chuunibyou version possible as the vehicle for a wild take on the Gundam formula, but it’s incredibly messy.
