I'm obsessed with this series.
For the past couple of weeks, I've been re-reading it constantly, going back to older chapters to find out more and check things I might have missed on a first read.
I went back over every chapter trying to find out where they are supposed to be located. Turns out Sou explicitly says where she's from in the penny candy shop chapter. I've been even looking up the place in wikipedia and even google maps. And I have to say, that boonies or not, the Amakusa Islands feel like a lovely place.
I love the setting, the characters, the down to earth plot and the fact that so far no one has acted like a total strawman idiot. Every character feels fleshed out, complex, with their flaws and their strengths, in short, they feel like real people. I think that what attracted me the most at first was that this was that idealized version of that one summer you wish you'd had when you were 12. With a friend who's always there for you, always looking to have fun and play your heart out.
Sou is simply adorable, She's bright, cheerful full of energy and that mischievious grin when she hugs Nozomu is simply too sweet.
It's that smile, that damned smile.
