I read the first two volumes during the break. Sad to say but this show is shitty slop.
The MC is OP and already S+-rank in strength, magic and sword.
The authors sidelines the MC with shitty excuses (alchemy research) just so he can show up at last moment and show of his OP strength. But, it never has any larger impact story-wise because he just walks off and nobody inquires about his extreme strength.
Nonstop circlejerk about curry and nip food.
Festival arc
And worst of all. the mc never tries to learn more magic or sword skills/knowledge. He never talks about magic with any other magician, not about staffs or non-elemental magic. He never talks about sword skills with Abel or anyone else. He never even spars with Abel. And all of this is excused with the "alchemy research"
There is never any satisfying answers or pay-off moments. Every time something interesting happens it gets glanced over.

They actually make the investigation team look competent here in the sense that they we're using some form of test on the gate. In the novel some rando grunt carrying stuff basically stumbles and tries to brace themselves on a wall and touches the gate.
