>best girl loses because reasons
what's the worst example of this?
I remember a manga where the MC marries a girl last minute because the mangaka said it wouldn't be fair otherwise

>best girl wins out of nowhere despite overwhelmingly odds
What about the oposite?
Where the main girl is all but guaranteed like always, but then best girl somehow overcomes.

The reasons were mental illness.
Both from her and Araragi

>because reasons
Yeah, the reason being she had no personal identity outside of what her parents told her to be, causing her to become a force of destruction that almost totally ruined her life until she stopped obsessing over the man she couldn't have. "Reasons."

As much as I liked Hanekawa back when I watched Monogatari years ago, Senjougahara honestly had better chemistry with Araragi overall than Hanekawa despite starting out as this cold, violent psycho (and still was to an extent past her introduction). I think Araragi outright said something like that in the anime about why he he liked her more than Hanekawa despite literally calling Hanekawa "the ideal female" at one point in Nisemonogatari.

Is the concept of "personal preferences" that hard to comprehend? There's no such thing as an ultimate "best girl" in any good story.
By vouching for a particular character to get with the protag simply because you "liked them more", you out yourself as a retard.
"Reason" is exactly the way it should play out. Otherwise it's just shit writing.

Anyway, you should look into visual novels to realize how retarded that notion is. They usually force you to experience multiple routes with different heroines for you to get the full story and showcase how each path could drastically change the plot, and what's there to be gained from it.
