Still a bootlicker, even after he's been treated?
Guess maybe he just doesn't want Gai to win.

When you're life is on the line you'll do anything, especially if you're an amoral asshole who does anything anyways.

Reminds me of the show Common Side Effects which had this elite billionaire order the destruction of a super drug that defeats death, only to grovel for it when he is diagnosed with cancer, losing all his principles he stood by when he wasn't in danger of dying.

Wish there was more fanart and memes for this series. The whole thing between Hirata and Sawai feels ripe for a whole Skinner and superintendent Chalmers mash up.

I wonder how well known Buraiden Gai is in JP.
Anonymous No.281482883
>>281482341
Wondering the same. Not just for this series, but other FKMT works as well.
You see Kaiji in Akagi come up in "best manga of all time" polls (not in the top 10 or anything, though) that are done from time to time, but I've also read claims that Gin to Kin is FKMT's most well-received work in JP. No idea how true this is, though.

I love these philosophical debates in stories like this. You'd think he'd just shoot the 3 of them but Hirata still somehow gives Gai the chance to talk and scheme, but I like that. It's like a good battle manga, the fight is just a representation of the different ideals being fought against one another, the specifics aren't important.

I really wish Buraiden Gai would get a film adaptation, it'd be an amazing thriller. Would especially love the wrist slitting scene animated- though a part of me recognizes that the pivotal moment of a film being a teenager slitting their wrist could be a bad influence.

Yeah, overconfidence and all. It's believable enough, and this clash of ideals is especially compelling here because Gai is leaving some of his own long-held beliefs behind here to win.
