I'm dumbing down the explanation a lot, but basically it turns out that the whole Liar's Game was based off of a series of books written by a dude who fled from a corrupt country that controlled its citizens and the books were meant to call them out and make the rest of the world aware of how corrupt the country is. The country is never explicitly named, but it's very clearly supposed to be China. The dude ends up getting assassinated later but not before telling other people who want to carry on his legacy.
Some stuff happens, and it's turn out the whole time the Liar's Game the characters were participating in turns out to be just some big test put together by allies of the guy who wrote the original books. There's some message about how if people would just band together and yada yada they can put an end to corruption and dethrone the people in power. All this is revealed and the people behind the game come out and explain everything. Their final plan is to release all the footage of the Liar's Game onto the Internet and streaming sites once again in an attempt to open people's eyes and expose the corruption in a "wake up sheeple" moment.
They release the footage onto the Internet but within a matter of seconds everything is erased and basically scrubbed from the Internet and they can't upload the footage anymore.
The story ends with the characters going "damn looks like [China's] influence runs deeper than we thought..."
And then it just ends, making everything they went through for nothing. And sure, the concept of bleak and hopeless endings aren't necessarily bad. But it really feels like the author didn't know how to actually conclude the story and made everything feel like a complete waste of time.
