It always has been. The only CGDCT show that’s consistently stayed above an 8 on MAL. Tbh I think Yama no Susume had better writing and direction esp in Next Summit, but normalfags never gave it a shot so it stayed stuck in the 7s.

Most of them are rather short. Nobody is saying that it was unpopular but it was nowhere as big of a hit as Yurucamp.

K-on wasn't about music.
It wasn't the first series about girls in a school club either and not even the first Kirara adaption on that (Hidamari Sketch) but it had a far bigger impact than its predecessors, leading to a new boom in manga and anime.
