The whole point was about Saitama being unknown, mistreated, put into shit categories and meme villains doing their speeches. All they had to do was to repeat such formula, but the more characters the MC interacts with, the less enjoyable the whole thing becomes.

It's an "earnest" satire in a post-irony paradigm.
That's why its able to make you genuinely tremble with excitement when it parodies the beloved tropes well, and that's why its so funny.

The original manga is good until it gets bogged down subplots for boring characters like the fast ninja hero and the handsome hero. I'd recommend reading it until the end of the villain association arc.
Neither the manga adaptation nor the anime are too good, but they're worth checking out briefly for the novelty.
