Why humour in anime is so much steps behind humour in the rest of the world?
I like anime, but the amount of anime shows that made me laugh could be counted only on one hand. Anime hardly makes me laugh as the most people on here

It's mainly the type of anime you're watching.
Most rom-com stuff is designed for actual horny 12-year-olds. It's porn for 12-year-olds, with humor for 12-year-olds.

if you make a comedy manga it has its own unique pacing and punchlines that take advantage of the panel layout
You can ruin jokes just by having a poor translator doing it
then imagine doing an anime out of that and how many opportunities they have to fuck up jokes that may just not translate well in video format where people have to speak the lines and require brand new material by the screenplay team

Anime very often ruins comedic timing. This applies to 4koma adaptations as well. It's probably actually worse with 4koma adaptations.

It's not hard to see why some people may think it ruins the timing of the jokes though when you stretch a single joke for a full episode though. Though I do agree that the K-ON anime has a different appeal than the manga.
