I think I got an aneurysm after Bright said the OPERATORS were the two most hardworking crewmen on White Base after literally 18 episodes of running Amoro bloody ragged through battle after battle after giving him barely any time to sleep, paying no mind to the fact he is getting shell shock, battle fatigue, signs of PTSD, etc. Meanwhile, Murai is over there fucking knitting something while all of them are lounging around on a bunch of padded chaises. I always surprised by the levels of nuance in late 70's entertainment. Like it was this small window where people realized governments were full of evil dick heads and the hippie movement was psyopped into existence to amass an army of useful idiots. Then governments purposedly infiltrated these movements with killer drugs such as heroin, made a mass campaign to make each drug look like they'd turn you into a killer dope fiend (including weed), and factually destroyed the movement. The kind of experiences hippies had with psychedelics were a genuine threat to our current culture. Gundam is probably one of the best shows in presenting how psychedelic experiences can alter your perception of what life is supposed to be about and bring you to a deeper understanding of others and yourself.

The hippie movement was a bunch of rich kids wallowing in the hedonism allowed by the economic boom and by not having a worry in the world, right before going back home to the cushy bourgeois lifestyle and high paying jobs that were always waiting for them. It was also an insignificantly tiny fraction of the population, watching a late 60s movies you'd think every teenager was a hippie, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
