Yeah, the idea of a screwed up family that isn't necessarily made up of bad people is interesting. But in the end the characters were dull and the DEADLY SINS were not that big of a deal, so it felt as if they were over exaggerating and dramatizing something really quotidian. The hysterical mother was perhaps the most coherent and interesting character, or at least it felt real, the problem is that it had nothing to do with the expectations that came with chapter 1.

Fighting sports like Boxing, Mma, etc. usually lead to many injuries and early retirements. In the case of women it is worse because they dont even have the same contexture and physical ability as men (they also generate less interest and therefore less money) so if seriously dreaming of pursuing a career of this style as a man sounds silly, as a woman it is even more

Why do the Japanese adore the concept of friendly rivalry? I know it makes for pretty convenient heel turns with manga villains, but I wonder if its rooted in the history or culture somewhere.

I don't think beloved rivals really exists in the US outside of retired athletes

It was.. alright, I guess? not really sure what to take away from it--competition is good? In some parts it felt like the MC was deciding her future because of the influence of this girl she'd never actually talked to outside of matches.

cute, the guy does good oneshots.

there is so little detail to the thing they're doing that it could be anything so I don't think the author really cares about MMA except for it being something that would be outlandish for girls. It seems very easy to read it as autobiographical for mangaka. Taizan would look like he was biting Look Back from Fujimoto if it was just that though.

Yeah that was a little strange. Like, one was so aimless she needed the compass of the other's talent to keep going. So I guess the reverse is the talented one needed the unbreakable determination of the other to not get sucked into her family's misfortune. Cute idea, but pretty idealistic

Yeah, I get that. But mangakas love to put this shit in any type of manga. There's always some weird underdog vs overdog routine where the better fighter is a flawed human while the worse idolizes them and is more well rounded.

Ichinose had that whole mess about the family having attempted suicide and they never ended up addressing it directly throughout the manga or they were constantly retconning the version of how the thing happened as they went along. Kek, there was a page involving a child getting kidnapped that never led to anything (in Takopi almost as well with Shizuka kidnapping her sisters). Taizan loves to put bullshit in and assume you know what he's thinking.

I don't see any potential for serialization here at all. Taizan doesn't show any signs of caring about MMA on a technical level like e.g. if dark hair watched a video of blonde hair fighting and commented on technique or something. I don't think it was a pilot for a serialization, just and old fashioned oneshot.

I get it for the blonde girl, but it comes off as kind of schizo with the black hair one considering she’s basically projecting her thinking, goals and feelings into a girl she’s never spoken to in her beyond a couple of times when she was 6 or so

I would agree if she had given up after the blonde abandoned her career. But she kept going. The blonde was more of a motivation than a real obsession.

The only things that lasted lingrr than three months were tanto (which they ended on their own) and PCP (which moved to anither mag and still didn't end by the time they get their anime). So they can only really last in WSJ

Sengoku Period, Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen. They fought brutal campaigns against one another but neither was able to conquer the other, and after their final battle where kenshin almost personally killed Shingen, they actually respected one another and exchanged letters, and became friendly as much as two warlords could. Kenshin even cried when Shingen died.
