It's a lot better than it needed to be. It tells a good story and takes things seriously enough to be interesting, but not so much that it kills the fun. The fights are pretty cool and the characters are all fairly well-done. Childhood friend is annoying, but Himari is one of the most 3-dimensional sex-fantasy poster girls I've seen in a 2000s ecchi anime, aside from maybe Saeko from Highschool of the Dead, but that series was much more serious by virtue of its genre while this one is much lighter but still makes her more than expected. For example, she constantly flirts with the MC and uses her lΒ·lewd body~ to get a reaction out of him, but she's actually a total virgin and can get super embarassed when she's not on the offensive. Yet, even that is done in a more nuanced manner than it sounds. And the MC is actually pretty cool, even though he's yet another inoffensive gentle soul, because he doesn't totally wimp out all the time or need constant saving and his powers and stuff feel earned rather than just BS to put him on top, requiring him to actually train and put in effort in and out of fights. He's got way more of a spine than the glasses MC from "Bomshells from the Sky" or "Cat Planet Cuties" as it is also known (this guy
