Why don't modern mangaka draw their characters with dirty ugly faces anymore? Why must every male character be a pretty boy?

Part of what made GTO so great is that Onizuka could go from somewhat handsome to the most ugly motherfucker around when he's reacting to something insane.

The exact same applies to most manga; there is usually some degree of humor balanced with drama. The key difference is that modern authors do not seem to like drawing ugly reaction faces.

Female characters are now the big selling point of all manga. If you have ugly characters interacting them them, even if it's just ugly facial expressions, it "degrades" female character's appeal. This is also why there are so many products with all-female cast that are marketed specifically for male demographics.
