Finished Bleach. Its biggest weakness is the characters. Kubo throws so many characters at you that’s it’s hard to care about even half of them. A lot of them get some backstory at some point, but the story simply does not feel driven by the characters for most of it. Ichigo and the main cast are consistently sidelined for long battles with side characters. Sometimes these side characters are blank slates beyond looking cool, sometimes they have more fun personalities than the main cast, but either way, very few stand out as “favorites.”

On the one hand the editor was completely correct that rushing to the SS arc and not giving the rest of Ichigo's friends powers was the best for popularity. On the other hand the editor denied us the rest of the group getting powers

really? if anything the characters are the good part of Bleach
each character has their own story arc
and they're related to the main plot
and they have their own agenda in the plot, like Byakuya on Rukia's execution, Tosen on Aizen's plan, Ukitake and Kyoraku against Rukia's execution, etc

The most obvious issue is that everything after Aizen's defeat feels extraneous and disconnected from what came before. The Fullbring arc at least felt like it might try to address Ichigo's loss of purpose but it ended up feeling as just another random add-on artificially connected back to soul society, and the Quincy arc is even worse, it comes out of nowhere just because.

the point of quincy arc is to flesh out the soul king lore, even the hogyoku that has god-attributes is also connected to it

It doesn't really matter, it just feels disconnected.
Introduce an army of quincies, kill them off, introduce zero squad, kill them off, the soul king lore fails to be engaging, bringing back arrancars feels like fanservice.

Anime is full of filler arcs where the story has to reset to the begin of the arc at the end and the animation style and quality varies drastically over the series. The anime is arguable worse.
