I did a FranXX rewatch after being forced by my sister to watch it together. Watching it again after 7 years i have to say this was better than i remembered. Hardly any show gets this level of animation, character acting, and directing nowadays. Not to mention this was 24 episodes. Trigger and A1 really went beyond for this production

I was on board with Franxx until the ending of episode 18. I just didnt like anything about what they did with it after that. The reality of the world divulged in episide 19 was not as interesting as many of the fan theories that had been bounced around at the time. The VIRM and escalation of the conflict to space battles were completly unnecessary and uninteresting.

But worst of all I hate the way Mitsuru & Kokoro and Hiro & 02's relationships played out. You have one life to live as a person who is defined by your accumulated experiences and memories. The flowery messaging of these different relationships reforming and playing out following the loss of those memories that make you who you are or after death, pales in comparison to the emotional payoff of seeing those relationships being experienced by the people who overcame all adversity and every obstacle to experience those relationships. The people who get to experience those relationships aren't the same people who fought to form and attain them. So why should I care about them? I don't. It's all hollow and pointless.

Failing all that, maybe try something like a Rebuild series for it, which could also give it a much better ending. People are still asking for some sort of follow up.
