Why is anime so obsessed with series about returning to their childhood or high-school years? I'd never want to go back to them. Majority of the media I grew up with sucked, so did my school days.

You're the odd one out here buddy. People are supposed to have positive memories of their childhood.

If your school days sucked, returning to that time to do things differently should hold a massive appeal.
If your school days were perfect, returning to relive them would be great too.
Your youth is the most precious thing you ever owned, who wouldn't want it back along with everything else you lost along the way? It's almost universally appealing, unless there's some cursed caveat.
