Is there a reason that all Masaaki Yuasa-styled/-influenced/-created anime has been entirely shit since the original Tatami Galaxy ended? Did the anime industry just blow the last spurt of their soul on that show and there's now nothing left? 4ºC created the best work in medium during the late 2000s and now it and its multiple spinoff studios can't even get a single IP right.

I think it's just an original anime thing at this point. All original anime not made by either Shinkai or Miyazaki will flop. I think even Hosoda's new one that's coming this year will be a huge flop, it's really not looking good from what I'm seeing.

From the look of it, it seems like the people that did go to see the movie liked it, but people aren't going in the numbers that you'd see for a Miyazaki or Shinkai film. It's the director's debut film so there's no name recognition and normalfags dont give a shit that it did well at Annecy.
