But it's half baked. The people are there to make it as good as the original but the follow through isn't.

The only thing Panty and Stocking has working against it remotely akin to "aging" is some of its humor is couched in topicality. The references can start to fall flat a decade later.
Fortunately the show isn't remotely as much of a parody as people like to think it is and what makes the show work is the gags are really sold by the animation. And in that respect the old show is much better animated than the current one is.

Sanzigen's work was great in S1 and still is now and went hand in hand with the work of the 2D animators who draw over it. Same as now. The idea that CGI use is inherently bad is silly - no one even has standards in CGI quality, it's just "CGI bad".

No actually the reason anime looks better is that animators still overwhelmingly matter and it largely has a better sense of direction, plus technical skill matters more. Manga being so successful to this day and having so many great aesthetics to draw from also plays a role. Primal is better than most anime and there's barely any shading.

Thank you. Gainax & Trigger fans are weirdly obsessed with "parody". It's a world inspired by things the staff like and uses that to get across fun cartoony situations.

The Drawn Together comparison is really bad too because 1. when they brought it up they didn't mean "it was our main influence", they were just saying "we didn't know you could get away with so much on TV now, we should do something pretty off the wall too" and 2. Drawn Together is a writer-driven show and Panty & Stocking is an animator-driven show
