I'm not saying this to be mean but I was looking at a number of long lists of the best 80s anime and out of nearly a hundred names only 5 were TV series. And I could name a few more that weren't listed, but there's a reason most 80s TV has been forgotten and the movie/OVA productions have remained the crop.

Second, every anime from the '80s has been forgotten by the audience of today at large, the only exception might be Dragon Ball but 90% of DB fans haven't seen the '80s anime
Third, the percentage of TV series that will be forgotten made today is even greater, when 100 series are made every season 99% will be less than dust a year later

There were well-animated shows in the 80s like Dragon Ball but most zoomer newfags are only familiar with complete slop like Z Gundam and other tranny mecha shows with dogshit drawing quality.

I've watched around 40 TV series, 180 OVA and 60 movies from the 80s and I say OVA are largely forgettable. People give them more attention because they were easier to license and translate. Most TV-series were limited to Japan and only a few dozen of them have been subbed over the decades.

Films and OVAs being great doesn't mean TV series suck. But actually your argument is that they are popular, and that is judging by lists that are probably skewed towards a generic otaku taste + high-profile films, which also gets reinforced over time because of people like you who take those extremely rough lists as the bible. You should explore 80s anime on your own, with an open mind, if you care about anime at all.
