The Itachi background story I'm currently watching is 5x better than whatever is going on in war arc right now. Reminds me of old Narutu. This is what it was supposed to be like. It's also telling that the quality drops after we enter the akatsuki phase in the story. Further proof that shippuden destroys everything it touches.

The entire reason he took on Haku was because he reminded him of himself, it was pretty clear he was lying during all his speeches about him being a tool.

Same here. I liked Naruto as a kid because everyone else did, but I never could get into it as a teen or adult. Like the world was cool, but the characters were too lame and dumb.

Kishimoto definitely has a bad habit of overstating new villains. This and Gaara making a 360 turn to good in the sasuke recovery mission when he was gleefully crushing teenagers to death in the chunin exams was hard to believe. And it all culminates with Kishi hyping Madara so fucking hard that his editor forces him to introduce a new big bad that might actually have a weak point.

Naruto had the most well choreographed close quarters combat animation of all the shounen anime adaptations of its class. No fights from one piece or bleach come close to looking as slick as Sasuke vs Orochimaru in the forest of death and thats not even the best the series has to offer.

Yes it was. Thats one of the reasons why people are so harsh on it.

Most of part 1 was good. Obviously excluding the filler.

Maybe 20% of part 2 was good. The Guy fights were good. Hidan and Kakuzu arc was good. Sasuke vs Deidara was good too.

Naruto is better than Dragon Ball

It was one of the best shounens in history up to the Chunin Exams. It went downhill from there but with occasional peaks like the Akatsuki fights.

it's a legit B+/A- battle shounen series. It has some real lows but overall it's good. It's also very easy to imagine what ifs and else-worlds which will feed a fanbase for decades. Decent setting, cool abilities, in-universe politics, etc.

YES.

genuinely enjoyed it up until the end of the pain arc, even through all of the akatsuki bullshit. it's some good, brainless fun if you're looking for shonen slop, and kishimoto's art is largely inoffensive to look at for the average person.
after that its a heaping pile of bullshit though
