Back in the early 00s when 4Kids English dubs were produced and broadcast, the same people trying ban games on Steam today were complaining about literally anything on tv being bad for kids. In this environment, you can see why not only sex and violence, but even being ethnically or culturally distinct from US norms could be seen as source of controversy that should be avoided.

While they did overreach most of the time, I do have some sympathy for US production companies like Saban and 4Kids now considering all the crap they had to deal with.

Yeah, a lot of people forget these were originally shows for toddlers and aired in TV-Y7 blocks.

The only one that has a right of being mad about is One Piece, since it was for teenagers, although that was on Toei for not telling 4kids about it. The rest is just autists getting mad at kids shows.
