From how I see it, Megumi has no real driving goal other than just being a Jujutsu sorcerer for Tsumiki's sake only and didn't want the burden of being a strong sorcerer like Gojo and Yuta have going.. He clearly never wanted to but was given all the gifts that made him susceptible to those expectations. Zoro, Sasuke, Bakugou all have a goal in mind for them to intentionally get stronger.

But I will at least say JJK suffers from extreme lack of character buildup because this manga is mostly battleslop and if Megumi doesn't fight or get feats, no one cares about that sentimental part of his character. I'll be honest, I was surprised he was still top 3 for the last JJK poll. Shinjuku went out of its way Megumi gets nothing good left.

It’s big switch between hit and miss, mostly misses. I enjoyed some of it but the rest was a huge slog. The first arc I hated was the one with the tanned tomboy, then whatever happened when Jardin boss took over the school until Ogami defeated him. I don’t remember most if not almost all that happened in those arcs, that's like half of the series. The student council arc was fresh and fun but it might not be enough.
Shinobi comes with similar premise to Kill Blue but is more competent. It has stronger characters, better action, and actual romance unlike Kill Blue which keeps doing bait and switch, though Shinobi is more repetitive. The shitposters here aren’t wrong calling it “people fight". In Kill Blue, they do tons of other stuff besides fighting. If Shinobi fixes that, then it’s really Kill Blue but what it should have been.

Here is how I predict things will go. First for Issue 40, we know Shinobi will take the cover for its anniversary, and then for Issue 41 it will go to Kagurabachi for its anniversary. When you subtract issues 39, 40, and 41, that’s 3 chapters out of the 9 to make 6. And while the batch of 4 (if it is) starts on issue 42, Blue Box will be releasing its latest 6 chapters alongside the batch of 4 which takes 11 weeks for it to be fully ranked. Which means it’s plenty of enough time to close it out.

It's more readable than a lot of the newer series but it's not great or anything. It never got its footing. It tried to be a lot of things but nothing ever stuck. I complained about it a lot in its earlier days but stopped after a while because no one here else read it to say anything about it. Kiyoshi is really similar actually. It fumbled the start, tried changing the genre constantly, never landed on anything and just exists.

Kill Blue's biggest problem in my opinion was how much time was wasted on the not romcom chapters of Ogami desperately insisting he's not a pedo. Just hint that Noren isn't a child earlier and the readers wouldn't have a problem. Even though it was dead obvious from the start she was also hit with the drug. The premise isn't even a bad one. The problem is the author had to get one thing right. It could have been really funny if it leaned into any gags. It could have been heartwarming if it leaned into the him living a childhood for the first time stuff or passing down adult experience to troubled peers. It could have even been romantic if there was stuff about his ex wife. There could have been stuff about him and his estranged daughter repairing his family. There could have been more about the not umbrella corp. I don't know why the author landed on challenges with the unicorn student crap for Noren's love if he wasn't allowed to love Noren. There's a ton of groundwork that didn't go anywhere. I could go on and on about where it could have went.

The main difference between Shinobi and Kill Blue is the adult thing. Shinobi is allowed to do romance because the love interest is mentally and physically the same age. Ogami isn't. Ogami is a killer by hire but he's also not allowed to glorify being a professional killer. J -> M does all that stuff about the hitman world way better and it's funnier too. It also does the de-aging thing better. Shinobi has a more likable side cast too. I couldn't name a single member of the home economics club. The only memorable and funny character is Shin because his pacifier thing is so absurd and none of the other characters are like that. The entire story being about the love he's not allowed to have with Noren is the main problem. Shinobi just needs to flesh out the villains and why they want the girl. It's like how Kill Blue never fleshed out Noren's stuff and why it's so important to protect her until now.
