Why is this movie so good but the Evangelion rebuilds are so bad?
Anonymous No.281681410 >>281681513
Because Anno was sashing in on the Rebuilds and wrote them as basically a "fuck you" to the fanbase.

He was criticizing the Japanese government's response to the 2011 tsunami. He could use real life and the other Godzilla movies for inspiration. The Rebuilds were about criticizing his own fans, based off his own work. Of course they're worse

I wouldn't call the film good, every shin film anno did had a lot of issues from camera work, poor lighting, terrible audio, all over the place editing, really shitty effects and just very average stories. Shin Ultraman was okay 5/10, Shin Kamen Rider was my personal favorite but it has a lot of issues and the lighting was especially lacking, it was far too dark in the later fight sequences making it hard to follow what was happening on screen. Shin Godzilla was an interesting piece more about the politics of the Japanese government and how slow they are, Godzilla himself was okay. It had the better effects overall I think. However after watching Minus One, Anno cannot compete. Minus One just is on another level compared to Shin Godzilla. Shin Godzilla is maybe a 6/10 at best on a good day, Minus One is a easy 7-8/10 that left me looking forward to the black and white version to rewatch. I think Anno is a mediocre director for real film and these films showcased his very average directing skills. He should stick to anime because I don't see any real talent for the camera from Anno, just very amateurish.

Anno is good at making things cool, but when he tries to elaborate is when everything goes down the toilet.

Wasn’t this movie released under the title Godzilla Resurgence when it came out in the U.S. before?
Why is it being kept as the original Japanese title Shin Godzilla this time?

Saw how far the creators wanted to take it originally and it was going to be incredibly batshit.

So, apparently he was supposed to be the manifestation of the concept of evolution. Started as a tadpole, then amphibious, then bipedal with no gills, then a self sustaining (generated his own energy without the need for air or sustenance), finally a humanoid to represent him taking on his threat.

Now the cut shit starts.
Next an angelic flying human like a Buddha style god.
Then a planet spawning kaiju while the planet acts as a hivemind (basically Godzilla becomes the Tyranids from 40k).
Then the universe itself becomes Godzilla.
Then the concept of the entirety of reality and the multiverse itself.
