A few years ago, a graphic designer
complained that a flyer they designed had been reproduced as a small part of the background of an anime scene.
It was among other flyers and was visible for just a few seconds.
I don't know how the story ended, but they were definitely considering suing the production studio or the production committee.
This struck me because it was a reaction opposite to the attitude of manga artists (or at least old-school ones); a documentary (or an article) explained that mostly authors believed that, once submitted, the drawings no longer belonged to them but were instead available to the publisher.
I would have expected the designer to also feel they had "given up the rights," but perhaps times have changed.
