Yes, this is the part of the series where Hikaru's self-nerf means he's no longer the greater(est) threat and the protective comfort he gave Yoshiki is shed.

If this was a less gay/more cynical series Yoshiki would have taken that piece of Hikaru and tried dissolving it in acid or pulverizing it with some of his Dad's timber-clearing equipment in secret to destroy Hikaru and/or after learning that his injuries can no longer heal supernaturally tried NICE BOAT'ing him again.

Something that always bothered me when Yoshiki learns from Asako that Hikaru half-deafened her and questions him about it (and later when Asako confronts Hikaru and he tells her what he is and did) <-actual spoilers is that Yoshiki doesn't interrogate why Hikaru can't go back in and undue what he did in a kind spiritual surgery. It's confirmed by real doctors that there's nothing physiologically wrong with her, so Hikaru ought to be able to mend whatever he ripped up inside her (not saying that the recovery process might not be long/hard but at least it would some measure of atonement).

This show is too homo

It occurs to me that this is actually in about every way a worse version of picrel where:

Legitimately my AOTS, I've been reading the manga alongside the anime and I'm impressed with how the Anime is overall better than the Manga in almost every aspect. Usually with adaptations it's the inverse, specially with horror, gotta give it to the director who's also the script supervisor, guy excels at horror and making the pacing fit for it.

Nerfing Hikaru was the right choice from a storytelling point of view. Without falling into contrivances, it would be hard to create tension if one of the two main protagonists is an OP god. The way the author went about it was great, as well. Hikaru, who wants to be accepted and loved by Yoshiki, gives a part of himself to him in order to prove how committed he is to this relationship. The revelation in today's episode of how important that little bone is only makes it better, because it shows how much Hikaru trusts Yoshiki, that he's willing to let him hold something that, if broken, could end his own life.
