Why is Tomino considered one of the great anime directors? His animes were always low-quality compared to his contemporaries.

because there are 2 giant life-size Gundam in Japan and one in China. Literally every single creator in that picture, besides rich boy Miyazaki grew up with Tomino's works one way or another.
