I think Ishiguro is baiting, Nata will live.
The village they are in used to have a Nowlong factory. Nowlong made the robots in Takahara, the heiress is the Director's bestfriend.
I think there might be an employee among the Inori villagers and can help Nata.
I even think they might be experimenting robot brain swaps in that location. Isn't it odd the temple had so much glucose to give them?
The temple must be a twisted shell of what nowlong used to be. Nowlong researched disembodied brains in bots, the temple took it as beheading people and their brain lives in AI nirvana.
The arc has themes of choosing convenience vs doing what's right. With kiruko calling out the village that makes sham hearings to protect the peace even if it meant no glucose and no photograph developed. There's also twisted justice from the temple, they killed Yuri when she does the important job of maintaining infrastructure in their broken world.
What if the person that beheaded Yuri is the one that can help, and Kirumaru will have to be pragmatic and have to cooperate with someone evil to save Nata's life?
