You know, a better story would have painted the whole Sakomo story in a more nuanced manner. Like, maybe say that Sakomo saving his teammates and failing the mission caused far more deaths and destruction for Konoha than just the loss of the few friends that he saved, and that his teammates have already agreed to putting their lives on the line and potentially dying for their village, so them being angry at Sakomo fucking up the mission for their sake would make more sense. Instead, the story just goes "the shinobi system is LE EVIL, and Sakomo is LE INNOCENT and that's that". And what's worse is that part 2 is gonna continue to be this preachy and black & white.
