Part 1 is great throughout the whole thing. People bitch about Part 2 because they're used to the old cast in Part 1 and it has a slow start which doesn't help the fact that Asa isn't well developed early on and comes off as a annoying bitch at times but she grows out as a character slowly because of all the BS that gets thrown at her direction while sharing the same body with Yoru can be confusing or often frustrating. I would recommend reading Part 1 definitely but if you don't rush through Part 1, Part 2 may be in it's final arc or finished so you don't have to sludge through it like we did when it first came out. Overall CSM is absolutely worth a read and one of the few series in JUMP that's worth a damn because it's very different from other series, namely it doesn't feel formulaic or cookie cutter and jumps into mature topics because Fujimoto is infamous for having absolutely no filter.

After you read part 1, you can stop and move on with your life. Nothing worthwhile in part 2. Part 2 is slop written by the author because hes on contract to do so.

Part 1 doesn't even take that long to read at all, either. It's a good story with a great ending (something rare in manga as a whole), and if you don't want what you think would happen to be tarnished by Part 2, don't continue reading.

I forced myself to read part 1 because a bunch of people recommended it and said it was a 'masterpiece'. In the end I hated every character and didn't bother with part 2.

Considering how the same people who insisted the first part was a masterpiece are now complaining about part 2 being awful, I think I made the right decision.
