would you rather a manga have inconsistent scheduling issues that make it unclear if it will ever be finished, or would you rather the author just make a light novel about everything that would have happened and call it a day?

D.Gray Man would probably need multiple light novels to complete its story with all the plot points the author set up.

D.Gray Man's issue (besides inconsistent schedule) is that the story got too convoluted.

If the manga is on it's last arc I prefer the former (see Black Clover). If the manga still has a while to go I prefer the latter.

I mean, a written story with Hoshino making a few pictures here and there would likely advance faster than what she has done in a decade in manga format.

What even is the story at this point? I started losing track of stuff after lenalee vs the level 3

Glad I'm not alone. I don't know if I lost track because of the big breaks or because I'm just stupid.

What follows after that fight is pretty straightforward and kino. We got an arc where the main character has a power up, then a big showdown against several of the main baddies, and then one of my favorite arcs where the good guys suffer a massive attack from the Earl forces. After that point the story gets kinda weird. It goes fine up to a certain point, where the origins of the main character are put into question and the story gets very convoluted and confusing at times. Not helping is that most of the previous characters are sidelined in favor of a new main cast which imo is not as engaging or charismatic as the one before, and the slow release date between chapters doesn't do the manga any favors.

Allen is on the run, about to be possessed by the 14th Noah and the Millenium Earl was actually his adopted father (which doesn't make sense). Also, Allen's entire life was a lie, and he was de-aged before the start of the series.

Hoshino should've kept things simple and made Mana the 14th Noah who betrayed the Earl. It feels like all of the convolution happened because she realized readers thought Mana and the 14th were the same guy.

>or would you rather the author just make a light novel about everything that would have happened and call it a day
If you choose this you don't like reading manga but just collecting information.

yeah so much shit happened in the searching for/Saying Goodbye to Allen Walker Arc that its hard to comeback from months of no new chapter and trying to remember what the fuck is going on with all the plot threads.

from what i remember allen is considered a noah now, innocence is not as righteous as exorcists make it out to be, a being made entirely out of innocence exists to protect something called "The Heart" (lmao) and that seems to entail killing allen/the noah in allen, the earl used to be some guy named mana that cross had some relation to and may or may not be working with the noah to groom allen into a vessel. oh and Lavi is... some fucking place i genuinely cant remember the last chapter this nigga was in

i think its pretty funny that blue exorcist is also still going somehow. though im still early in that series so i dont know if its a similar situation. both are exorcist series that i remember seeing when i was a kid, and going back to both to see if their done only to find that they arent anywhere near done apparently

You know, I could get behind that. Would have been predictable, but would have made things less convoluted.

For me the crazy one is that Kuroshitsuji is still ongoing.
And Vampire Knight had a sequel that only just ended last year.

If the mangaka can't consistently work on it anymore, I think the first option should be to hire an illustrator and have the mangaka focus on writing and maybe drawing faces or a couple of full drawings per chapter. If that's not possible, then yeah, just write it all down and draw a handful of cool illustrations.

I'll always remember Blue Exorcist for being an anime who got super popular quickly and then lost that popularity just as fast.

I haven't followed Blue Exorcist since the MC's brother joined the villains, but I doubt its plot is as convoluted as D.Gray Man's became.
>>281726412
Sometimes predictable is better. Maybe Hoshino manages to make the whole Mana=Earl twist make sense at some point, because that reveal opens up an even bigger can of worms than all of the other convoluted stuff connected to Allen.

I'll always find surprising how quickly Blue Exorcist got popular during it's earlier stages. While the story gets better later, I found the first arcs (what is covered in the first season before it went anime original) very unispired and boring. At least with stuff like D.Gray-man I remember being engaged from the start and finding the world and setting cool and interesting, while Blue Exorcist seemed like a Harry Potter inspired story with not much originality. I can only think that Rin's design played a role there. I remember him getting thousands of fanart back then, and I get that, he looks cool with his blue flames, sword and devil tail.

The problem isn't the plot being convoluted it's just the lack of content. 4 chapters a year and sometimes the chapters arent even 23 pages. Her art style is very good but unless she gives us a written ending in the form of story notes or whatever, we will never see the end of DGM. It'll end up like zetman or bastard.

The main problem with Mana being the Earl is that, if the Earl was Mana all along, who the fuck did Allen turned into an Akuma? I read some theorizing that Allen memories are broken or manipulated by the pedo priest Innocence and he didn'trevive Mana, but I feel that would ruin Allen's character since his character it's mostly rooted in that action from his past.

That's my problem with the twist too. Who did he turn into an Akuma and how were they able to curse him with the ability to see disguised Akuma?
