No, I'm a manga reader. But watching the anime is making me curious just how much Chizuru liked Kazuya up until this point (this point being yesterday's episode).

If I had to say: Chizuru likes Kazuya and keeps using this lie (of them being a couple for Kazuya's family) as an excuse to keep being around him. That's why when he wanted to be honest with Kazuya's grandma she stopped him and preferred seeing her grandma die without knowing the truth. But at the same time she's torn by how they met and the rules she broke to get to this point. So her dilemma comes from liking Kazuya despite the agreements she signed when becoming a rental girlfriend.

Deep down she knows she likes him (not sure about love yet) but wouldn't admit it to herself.

This is my problem with the story. Pretty much everyone is trying to gaslight her, even her own grandmother at one point, and they are acting as if she is getting or throwing away a good thing. She can’t just like him or date him by her own choice she has to be held at gunpoint and if she’s making a wrong choice she gets yelled at.

Ending up alone is a mean spirited way to end this manga. It's as if Kazuya had to be punished for having to fall for a renkano and the sin of existing.
An NPC is bitter, Mini-Ruka... bittersweet. Kazuya deserves to earn his happiness. Be it either getting Chizuru or dying protecting Chizuru's future and being released from the misery that represents his life. If he manages to agonize, Chizuru would tell something that would be left ambiguous if it was a sweet lie or truth, he's finally free from being tortured by her indecision and passes away with a relaxed face, the most chill one he ever showed. Chizuru has a tsunade moment, cries and calls him a jerk, but the next day, she's shown using the Kinoshita ring and an intense gaze. For the sake of her frustrated feelings, she'll live, carrying the weight of her decisions and living intensely. She becomes a single maiden realised actress for the rest of her life. Tankoubon end shows her as a 70yo hag in her last legs, carried by her adopted son (who suspiciously looks like Kazuya), visiting Kazuya's grave like she religiously did all her life. She has a death hallucination where she sees her grandparents, mom, Kazuya's deceased family and Kazuya in the other side as their original selves. He extends her hand, and she takes it, finally dying
