The girl in Palau(Aina) was a model and she asked Iori to show her around, but Kouhei ruined it for him, because of the other Aina. The guy in Palau(Ikegoshi) scored a VA(we see her later on in Okinawa and during Maya's wedding) and since he is Kouhei's clone the idea was that he would be able to score a VA gf as well, which isn't an unreasonable assumption at all.

They always were close on the account of Cakey wrapping him in her schemes to not let Iori and Chisa get closer. Since Palau the author very very awkwardly established that Kouhei had a thing for Aina, yet he realized she likes Iori and decided to help her, which is an extension of the relationship they already had. Them eventually getting together was obvious, the way the author decide to implement it though... I had to agree that was awful, but makes sense if Kouhei likes her.
