Moria's original body is dead, he really died against Kaido during Kaido's initial invasion of Wano. Then some years later, now with his own pirate crew, Moria tried to fight Kaido AGAIN with his new altered zombie body, and that is the clash we've known about for years where all of his crew died. That, or Moria took his own shadow out of his body and possessed a completely new body, aka his current body. The original Kozuki Moria sounds like a much nicer guy than Gecko Moria, so Moria's personality that came with his shadow might have blended with the more sinister personality of the original inhabitant of the new body.
