The series was clearly wrapping up too, that was a fast axe for a 200+ chapter series.

I feel like the author pissed some higher up off.

Y'know after re-reading it, I can see why people think that this was when some jackass at Jump said you get 1 volume left.
But I can't help but feel that, calamity coming faster than before has been part of Tozuka's writing all this time, especially if we look at what happened in the last loop.
Oh well, if the Winter special is adding a fight against UMA Balance, then if the anime adaptation ever makes it this far, I hope they extend what happens.

It's less that Jump is doing bad, its still the most popular manga magazine out there by far, but its circulation has been dropping over time, and it's been struggling to find true mega-hits after KNY ended. None of their recent anime adaptations have really taken off and given their series huge boosts like they used to always expect.
