So the spin off was just the author trying to fix that lackluster ending? I think it is fine for what it is.
Thanks for the dump anon!

It's great to see what Kou and Anko were up to during the timeskip but it makes it even more obvious that the manga ended way too abruptly since it still doesn't give a good conclusion to the rest of the cast or Kou and Nazuna's relationship.

Yeah they spent the final part of the story all about what would happen with Nazuna and Kou considering their situation and it ends with nothing. One thing is an open ending and another is just not concluding the story.

Honestly, I would just go with Nazuna finding a "half-human" transformation to Kou's half-vampire and that way they can be together.

And afaik this was never in danger of being axed so either Kotoyama always planned for this ending (which makes him two for two for inconclusive endings) or just didn't know how to continue so he decided to call it quits before stretching the story beyond the original scope which isn't a bad idea but not as a last resort for lack of creativity. Hopefully his next work doesn't suffer the same fate YnU and Dagashi Kashi had.

Yeah, I think the manga stretched a lot after Mahiru's death and they didn't address the half vampirism stuff except for confirming to be kind of permanent since Kou still has it even after years of Nazuna not drinking his blood. The whole deal with Nazuna being different than the other vampires by being born as one with a human father could be explored a lot more and if she ran away afraid of drinking Kou's blood, why in the epilogue they're fine with her drinking his blood bags? Just afraid of losing control even though she never did that and Kou can overwhelm her as half vampire?

Honestly, I just wish we didn't have the half vampire stuff at all. It wasn't needed to solve Kiku's arc. It just added pointless battle shonen for some reason and making Nazuna more of a pushover. I would like it better if Anko searched and had more "anti-vampire" methods, traps and stuff sharing with Nazuna and Kou if they wanted more confrontations with Kiku, the Yakuza vampire and not-Shermie. And either the story ends with or right after Kiku's death or more exploration on Nazuna's nature. Or fuck it and have a happy ending with Nazuna turning human if Kou can turn into a half vampire.

But I wouldn't mind more detective stuff of the duo (or with Nazuna added) focusing on vampire cases.

I don't think the half-vampire stuff was bad as a concept but it together with Nazuna being a natural born vampire were so underdeveloped that make you question what was the point beyond making the main pair more special.

I guess with this extra arc's ending it confirms that the author wanted. He could have retconned the ending the ending and made Kou a full vamp (not like he doesn't add new shit without caring for the past lore all the time).
This ending is OK, it still just feels like getting blueballed.
This arc itself was pure filler, it added nothing to the story.
Anonymous No.281800210 >>281814638
>>281798930
>it added nothing to the story.
It explained how Kou found Nazuna in the epilogue. That clue that Shio gave them about a vampire paradise was what helped them find Nazuna in Siberia or something. But it was a side story to expand the influence that vampires have in that world. Honesly I would like more of that with the adventures of Anko and Kou. Maybe name it "Kyouka and Kou P.I." or KKPI.
I don't think the author ever intended Kou to become a vampire. The half vampirism was already a copout.
Anonymous No.281800217 >>281800469
you guys might call me a pleb but i got extremely extremely filtered by the first few episodes because of the slow pace and boring talk between the two of them
does it actually get better? I'm hearing genuine praise for 2nd season
Anonymous No.281800469 >>281814665
>>281800217
It has a lot of talk and only gets a bit more action with the gyaru vampire showing that vampires can be deadly. It's only at the end of the first season when the Detective shows up that it gets more serious and now season two is all about her being an antagonist to the vampires. And of course she's a fan favorite. Enough to share this side series/spin off with the MC here.

Well, I'm one that loves the chemistry between Kou and Nazuna. Even the vampires have a gossip group teasing them. So the slow pacing is far from being a negative point for me.
But the direction of both seasons are pretty great at capturing the "night life" the series portray and does a good job when shit gets serious with colors and music. Well unless you're a fan of tall girls, you'll probably like the adaptation.
It's rare to have an OP so on point like this one for the season 2.
Too bad I feel the story starts falling apart after this arc and the story ends kinda underwhelming/"unfinished" like we're complaining here

You are the only one complaining the story ends perfectly fine, for some reason you want answers for stuff that was made to be left without an answer
